Unveiling the Truth
Maureen and Lionel painstakingly pieced together the pieces of Jermaine’s life after he had vanished. As the days progressed into weeks, they continued to do so. Through the words in his diary, a disturbed little kid was revealed. He was torn between his want to be with his father and his commitment to his mother. They found out that Jermaine had been confronted with a great deal of difficulty and that he frequently found himself in precarious circumstances. The fact that he had been suffering with his identity and a sense of belonging, which led him down a path of doubt, became apparent through the course of the conversation.
A Beacon of Hope
With each new piece of information, Maureen’s heart wrenched for the suffering of her son. When she realized that she had not been there to help him navigate those turbulent years, she was overcome with an overpowering sense of remorse. In spite of this, she was also aware that the entries in the diary were a ray of light, a trail of breadcrumbs that brought them closer to Jermaine’s current location. Considering everything that transpired, it is possible that he did, in fact, flee from his home.
